The city of Henderson is the second largest city in Nevada, following Las Vegas, with a general population of about 320,000 residents. Henderson, which was recently ranked as one of the top 10 safest cities in the country, spans more than 100 square miles across the southeastern region of the Las Vegas Valley.
Residents enjoy the best of both worlds while being conveniently located between the bustling city of Las Vegas and the outdoor opportunities unique to the southwest region of the valley. Henderson, which borders the northern rim of the McCullough Mountains, is home to more than 60 public and school parks and roughly 180 miles of bicycle and pedestrian trails. The city is an ideal place for the outdoor adventurer with being just a short drive from Lake Mead National Recreation Area, featuring the largest man-made lake in the country.
Henderson offers a wide array of lifestyles and communities, from the unique master plan community Lake Las Vegas, featuring its own 320-acre lake for waterfront living, to Ascaya and MacDonald Highlands, which offer panoramic views of the Las Vegas Strip and surrounding mountain ranges unlike anywhere else in Southern Nevada.
An increasing number of major shopping and dining hubs, concert venues, professional sporting arenas, recreational facilities and casino resorts offer residents countless opportunities for entertainment. Henderson offers several shopping opportunities throughout, including Galleria at Sunset mall at the center of the city, The District at Green Valley Ranch with more than 100 retail shops and eateries, and Water Street District, featuring upscale boutiques and one-of-a-kind restaurants and breweries. A number of casinos are also located within Henderson, including Sunset Station Hotel & Casino, and the Green Valley Ranch Resort and Spa, Fiesta Henderson Casino Hotel and the M Resort, which was deemed “One of the Finest Hotels in the World” by Forbes Travel Guide.
Henderson, which has become home to a number of professional athletes and A-list entertainers, houses the Las Vegas Raiders Headquarters and practice field and the Henderson Silver Knights, the city’s professional American Hockey League team. In 2021, the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces broke ground on the team’s newest practice area, a 50,000 square foot facility with practice spaces, offices, training rooms and team lockers.
The city has a long-standing support for the arts, with opportunities to explore Henderson’s history at the various art galleries and museums, as well as enjoy an evening listening to the popular Henderson Symphony Orchestra.
Several colleges and universities operate in Henderson, including Nevada State College, Roseman University of Health Sciences and the College of Southern Nevada. Henderson is a part of the Clark County School District, one of the largest districts in the country. The community encompasses 29 elementary schools, nine middle schools and nine high schools, four of which are private college preparatory schools.
